Bio
Winner of the Vincero Competition in Naples, Italy, in October 2022, New Zealand tenor Oliver Sewell begins his second season as a member of the principal ensemble at Theater Bremen. His roles include Rodolfo La bohème, Bénédict Bénédict et Béatrice and Narraboth Salome. In the 23/24 Season his roles included Robert Wilson Dr. Atomic, the title role Orpheus aux enfers and the title role, La Clemenza di Tito. In the summer of 2024, he joined Garsington Opera in the UK for the role of Edoardo Un giorno di Regno.
In early 2020 the Oliver returned to New Zealand where he played Don Octavio in Wellington Opera’s Don Giovanni following which he appeared as Alfredo La Traviata and Edgardo Lucia di Lammermoor for the company; he sang the role of Jaquino Fidelio with Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra and returned for Victorin Die Tote Stadt, and, prior to his departure for Germany, he sang Das Lied von der Erde with Orchestra Wellington.
US highlights include Giannetto La gazza ladra with Will Crutchfield’s Teatro Nuovo in Lincoln Centre’s Rose Theatre, Handel’s Messiah with Columbus Symphony, Carmina Burana with New York Master Chorale at Alice Tully Hall, Mozart’s Mass in C Major at Carnegie Hall, the role of Ernesto Don Pasquale at Crested Butte Music Festival and Ramiro La Cenerentola at City Lyric Opera in New York. He appeared as Tamino Die Zauberflöte in the Manhattan School of Music production and Fernand in La Favorite at the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia.
